FAQ - Frequently asked questions

The most common applications for polypropylene (PP) are:

  • Caps and closures: Polypropylene is often used to make caps and closures for bottles and other vessels.
  • Hygiene products: PP is widely used in the hygiene industry for products such as disposable diapers, wet wipes, sanitary towels and medical masks.
  • Injection molded components: PP is often used in injection molding processes to make a variety of components, such as household items, automotive parts, toys, food containers and many other consumer goods.

It depends.
For some materials, such as regrind, no shredding is required as this is done by the Processing Control Unit (PCU). The PCU is engineered to process these types of materials efficiently without them being shredded first. Materials such as film and hygiene products normally do not need to be pre-shredded.

Thick-walled plastic products and materials, however, do need to be shredded first. In this case a shredder is used to reduce the material to a suitable size before further processing.

The most important factor that affects the recycling of this material is possible contamination from printing inks, paper labels, metal, wood, as well as other impurities. These factors can have a significant effect on final product quality.

It really depends on the application of the final product made from the recycled pellets. The specifications for the purity of the material vary depending on the area of application:

  • Thin-walled applications such as film and precision injection-molded products require fine filtration to remove all impurities that would otherwise affect the quality.
  • Thick-walled injection molded products, however, often have less specific filtration requirements, because smaller impurities are less detrimental to the function and visual appearance of the final product.

This largely depends on what the material is going to be used for. The more refined the final product, the higher the purity of the material needs to be. UMAC offers 2 options:

  • Impurity level up to 2-3 %: Our standard READYMAC recycling machine is designed to efficiently process moderate levels of contaminants and output high-quality recycled material. It can handle an impurity level of up to 2-3%.
  • Impurity level up to 4-5 %: Depending on the quality of the process components in terms of filtration and capacity, used recycling machines can handle impurity levels of up to 5% and still output high-quality recycled material.

Generally speaking, there is not one rule that covers all situations. It always depends on the types of impurity and how high quality the final product needs to be. Depending on the recyclate quality needed for the final product, the level of impurities differs due to the fine filtration required.

  • READYMAC: This is the standard version of our plastic recycling machine that is available immediately. It is available at a fixed price of € 375,000.
  • Used recycling machines: Our used machines are customized, tested, cleaned and refurbished to meet specific customer requirements. They are available quickly and offer you effective and smooth production at a reasonable price.
